When is Eid al adha?

 What is Eid al adha?

Eid al-Adha is one of the two primary celebrations in Islam, along with Eid al-Fitr. It occurs near the 10th of Dhu al-Hijja, the last and twelfth month in the Islamic calendar. Festivities and commemorations are typically extended to the 4 days subsequent days.

Ibrahim Al Jarwan, the Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Emirates Astronomical Society, stated that Wednesday, May 28, is expected to be the first day of Dhu Al Hijjah. Consequently, Eid Al Adha is expected to occur on Friday, June 6.

Although these dates rely on astronomical forecasts, the ultimate verification relies on the formal moon sighting as the date approaches. Like all Islamic holidays, UAE officials will issue a formal declaration upon sighting the new moon, signaling the start of Dhu Al Hijjah, the 12th month in the Islamic lunar calendar.

The festival coincides with the culmination of the Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca and is observed with prayers, charitable giving to those in need, family gatherings, and the ritual sacrifice of sheep or goats. The meat is then shared to those in need and then to family and friends.

Arafat Day recognized as a public holiday in all the Islamic world.

Arafat Day is celebrated as a national holiday in the UAE. and all islamic countries. It occurs on the ninth day of Dhu Al Hijjah in the lunar Islamic calendar. The specific date is established by observing the crescent moon, with confirmation from the official moon-sighting committee as the event approaches.

What does Arafat Day mean?

The Day of Arafat is a significant Islamic event occurring on the ninth of Dhu Al Hijjah, the day preceding Eid Al Adha. It signifies the second day of the Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca, where Muslim devotees assemble at Mount Arafat and the Arafat Plain. From this location, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) gave one of his last sermons in the final year of his life.

For Muslims not engaged in Hajj, Arafat Day holds great importance as a day for fasting and spiritual contemplation. While fasting on this day isn't mandatory, it is strongly encouraged for those who are not undertaking the pilgrimage.

Eid Al Adha, a major Islamic holiday, is anticipated to start on Friday, June 6, 2025, according to forecasts from the Emirates Astronomy Society. Predictions suggest that the crescent moon indicating the beginning of Dhu Al Hijjah will likely be sighted on May 27, which would mean May 28 is the inaugural day of the Islamic month.
